About the Department of Sanskrit

The Department of Sanskrit was established in 1935. Prof. Shishir Kar Sastri was the founding Head of this department. The main goal and objective of the Department of Sanskrit is the development and promotion of Indianness. The institution has a long heritage of imparting Sanskrit education, as the Sanskrit Department has been functioning since its very inception. Many eminent scholars, including Shishir Kar Sastri and others, have glorified the department through their able guidance and teachings. The Department of Sanskrit has been celebrating “Sanskrit Day” every year since 2002. The department also publishes the annual journal प्राचीध्वनि. The efforts of this department will continue in the future so that students are enlightened by the glow of wisdom. The teaching and learning process of traditional Shastric literature and knowledge is quite different from that of modern subjects in many ways. The department is making every effort to convince teachers and students about the benefits of modern teaching and learning methods, due to which they are utilizing modern techniques to learn and explain the Shastras properly. With continuous efforts, teachers and students are now accepting these techniques to present traditional knowledge in society, which helps in creating a proper and conducive atmosphere around us.
