The Department of Sanskrit was established in 1935. Prof. Shishir Kar Sastri was the founding Head of this department. The main goal and objective of the Department of Sanskrit is the development and promotion of Indianness. The institution has a long heritage of imparting Sanskrit education, as the Sanskrit Department has been functioning since its very inception. Many eminent scholars, including Shishir Kar Sastri and others, have glorified the department through their able guidance and teachings.
